What does the research show?
In a large 68-week clinical trial, adults receiving the studied 2.4 mg dose of semaglutide with lifestyle support lost an average of approximately 14.9% of their starting body weight, compared with 2.4% among participants receiving placebo and lifestyle support. Individual results vary.

Treatment generally begins with a lower medication dose that is gradually adjusted based on your response and tolerance. Common side effects may include nausea, constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, decreased appetite or abdominal discomfort.
